Criticism

Like many people who, at the beginning of their retirement, try their hand at painting with varying degrees of enjoyment, Jacqueline HUBERT let herself be won over by this art form. But, with a key difference: she did not rush headlong into it, and intelligently limited herself to discovering a figurative style that suited her by first working on drawn sketches and studies which revealed her innate talent. She learnt, little by little, but with ever-increasing confidence, to master pastels and finally oils and acrylics that she transformed into very personal and well-finished works. Indeed, whether creating with paint or pastel, Jacqueline HUBERT retains the same liveliness in the basic design and, better still, brings to life a dynamic palette of colours that is full of light and sensuality, to the delight of her pretty Venus Kallipygos and many other characters who, alone or in groups, celebrate a lively and elegant humanity, and are captured with ease in solid sketches. The bestiary, whether depicted in paint or pastel, is significantly picturesque in nature, much like her still-lifes, to which Jacqueline HUBERT confers a more traditional sense. Comfortably composed, they also good-humouredly reflect all the passion that this tenacious and sincere artist expresses.
