The Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Caen clearly understood the personality of Marie-Noël MURIE very well, whether in her paintings or pastels, by allowing her to express herself with so much talent. Here is a mysterious style of painting that nevertheless projects serenity and poetry thanks to her mastery of the half-light, unusual perspectives and attractive colours.
With Marie-Noël MURIE, it is the the efficiency of her her art that stands out, even in the treatment of trivial or familiar motifs. Her still-lifes are not there to appeal to us, but to convince us, so that we enter into her intimate universe, due to the persuasive atmosphere she creates, the beauty of which nestles in the artist's simplicity and generosity.
The luminosity that filters into the painting is however essential to this creator who possesses the gift of being able to associate her principal motifs with an environment full of charm and secrets. MURIE incites the observer to concentrate on the composition, and the attractive effects created by matter, which we cannot perceive in its rustic form, yet we feel its fascinating impact despite, or, moreover, due to her naturalness, and her unaffected but very graceful style.
Her painting is like a magic spell that infiltrates the landscapes so often characterized by vegetation and legendary skies. Subtle shadows sweep over the unusual sites, pulsating with solemn momentum in the dream-like landscapes. An attentive brush or pastel-stroke withholds an emotion both fearful and in admiration of this art in which elements of the spectacular are used sparingly and yet which remains so close to the soul.
