Criticism

In painting, practicing nudes has always been an enigma. It is in fact the essential basis for any painter and sculptor, and whether it be through brief sketches or imposing compositions, an artist must necessarily and tirelessly work at the discipline whatever their figurative or abstract path. Consequently, the paintings’ execution requires a level of assurance and balance, for which anyone abstaining from the artform will sooner or later pay through lack of harmony. By deciding to dedicate herself to nude art, NEWT has proven wise and discerning, not forgetting bold and capable of mastering difficulties. In her many paintings, she skillfully expounds all we can expect from a perfect body. Postures are well brought-out through original combinations of colours, offering a charming contemporary sparkle without detracting from her models’ harmonious and realist grace, and particularly their sensuality, which is highlighted with rare and welcome dignity. NEWT’s solid and lively brushstroke easily enhances and, in moderation, dynamises works that are steeped in adventure. Beautifully complimented by an active decorum, they reveal an incontestable, generous, original and timeless appeal.
