Criticism
I noticed Michel De Bruyne some years ago at a salon organised by the association “Artistes Indépendants Normands” at the Halle aux Toiles in Rouen.
It is true that this member of the group of painters "Bas Normands" journeys successfully through numerous exhibitions in Upper and Lower Normandy, and the Centre region, and that his many awards, often allocated by exhibition visitors, pay homage to this pure and obstinate self-taught artist who fearlessly overcomes the difficulties presented by oil-painting in order to better express himself.
What characterizes Michel De Bruyne’s work is his boldness when it comes to motifs, and his way of mastering perspectives, commanding reflections, reproducing the drapes in materials, and so on.
It’s natural, of course, to find this in figurative painting, but in this case, the artist confers his canvases with a style that is his own, and which is precisely the fruit of his unaffected temperament and his personality that is never violated by influences, however interesting they may be.
Miche De Bruyne, half-way between poetry and hyper-realism, portrays therefore any environment that affects him, any atmosphere that he discerns, and crafts them into meticulous and luminous works of art. They are sometimes bold, and often mysterious in their visible truthfulness that is transformed by his captivating paintbrush.
