"THE TRAVELS OF HERE AND NOW"
Saadé’s installation is inspired by the 18th-century wallpaper paintings by Jurriaan Andriessen (1742-1819) in the Drakensteyn room.
For Saadé, the literal and metaphorical journeys of the paintings tell a large number of poetic visual stories. The stories trigger notions of identity, displacement, estrangement and nostalgia. As a visitor you step into the Drakensteyn room in the installation and undergo your own sensation.
Stéphanie Saadé graduated in Fine Arts at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and subsequently followed a post-graduate program at the China Academy of Arts in Hangzhou. In 2014, Saadé became an "artist in residence" at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht and in 2015 at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
This project is supported by the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts).
