Criticism

Michèle Amblard from Caen is the delightful creator of comely statues, which are charming and remarkably authentic in terms of their postures and pure expressions, conveying a very effective use of materials. She does of course practice realism in sculpture, and with such admirable truth! It is not enough to respect harmony, proportions, the uniqueness of the pose, and the impact of the likeness. Michèle Amblard brings that special something that is crucial to the expression: faces, busts and bodies are perceived and reproduced as cognisant beings. And these exemplarily simple bodies are pleasing for their naturalness and the sensual smoothness of their poses. They offer that sobriety that comes of a privileged moment with a material that is pure, clean and sometimes powerful, one that reveals charm and truth. It is with this elegance that Michèle Amblard testifies to that which surrounds her and captures her attention, conveying it with the subtlest of details, a quality that she ably allies with very personal and comical animal sculptures.
