Criticism

Marcel Letassey has been painting and sculpting for over half a century, and his works perfectly reflect his personality. He is meticulous, and organized in art management, yet no less careful to compose an ensemble in which the charms inherent to surrealism alternate with those of symbolism, and this in accordance with the will of the artist. In fact, Marcel Letassey chose a decisive artistic direction that consists of portraying the generous fruit of his dreams, thoughts, desires and hopes. Hence this strange reality that we recognize as being faithful to the turmoil of the dream-world, and that the artist conveys effectively according to his very personal concepts of pictorial technique, based on his long experience. An active colourist, and very conscious of the value of masses of colour, Marcel Letassey never allows reality to dominate destiny, which he has chosen as his subject. He thereby reaches, with faith, determination and ardour, the difficult yet passionate path of his artistic vocation that is still very much alive and tirelessly creative. Marcel Letassey’s sculptures display a more marked classicism, captivating, with enthusiastic faithfulness, the reality of astonishing living bodies.
