  • Criticism

When a person feels irresistibly drawn to creation and chooses painting, it is difficult to know where their first steps will lead them, for practicing this art form triggers an infinite number of sensations, perceptions and creations. Dominique Servain masters realism and I am familiar with her nudes and portraits which are appealingly beautiful, and where the wise modesty of the means employed further accentuates effects of light and grace. But apparently, the artist appears extremely at ease with an informal style that is both clever and pleasant, where it seems nothing is left to chance to better reflect her dynamic temperament, and especially her mind. Just look and allow yourself to be carried away by her nebulous infernos and magmatic upsurges; her evocations can be harmonious or furious, and inhabited by mysterious visions and vibrant compositions of future lives… This is what Dominique Servain’s abstract work represents; a series of movements that capture the imagination and stimulate thought while brushing the limits of an ancestral figurative style in an interpretation that is skillfully worked with novel colours and inventive shapes.
