  • Criticism

Jean-Jacques Rollini comes across first as an accomplished drawer, mastering shapes and motifs with finesse and confidence. In painting, this ensures he does not hesitate as to the forceful effect of his material, applying it over an exemplary drawing that governs his composition. And it is for this reason that his theme on jazz music and its performers is perfectly adapted to the explored expressions and movements, which he sets in that smouldering atmosphere he holds dear, with its lighting contrasts and vibrant colours. Marked with feverish creativity, Jean-Jacques Rollini’s works have a definite impact that can also be seen in urban themes, where neon lights cut through the night, or bright sunshine is contrasted with the glare of lights. This bestows a powerful and daring vitality to the work, as do the simmering harmonies, which the artist serves red hot in authentic colour bursts in all places and all seasons. Astonishing and captivating, his lively and rhythmic paintings accentuate sites as well as characters. Even his nudes are steeped in contrasts and sensual and mysterious reflections, just like his enchanting landscapes with their sense of infinite depths.
