  • Criticism

Jeanne TIFINE was born and brought-up in Normandy, and if family circumstances led her to paint superb subjects in the Pacific or French Overseas Departments and Territories, never was she unfaithful to the sites of Normandy, painting everything from the most spectacular landscapes to the most discretely attractive and serene scenes. And she does all this using only her three fundamental colours, the combinations of which are tried and tested, and very personal, conferring her canvases with an indefinable appeal and an originality that can be found nowhere else. TIFINE exemplifies the outdoor painter and if her canvases are often of modest proportions, it is because she paints them while in her car, thereby capturing on site all the emotions of nature and the elements that she in turn swathes with great sensitiveness, gentle nuances and intense life. Nothing of the beauty of sites such as the Mont Saint Michel, picturesque streets, misty rivers, and the accuracy of poses and spell-binding beings escapes her brush. The same is true of the personality in the faces that TIFINE reproduces with as much mastery as exactness. She is a genuine artist who cannot be caught out, since her judgment reflects her flare and the quiet generosity of her talent.
